Cororeef International Youth Music Festival
A proposed 2027 festival in Astana and online, opening educational, performance, and cultural-exchange opportunities for high-school instrumental musicians.
Music is becoming a permanent part of Cororeef’s learning and culture programme. The proposed first festival would connect young instrumental musicians internationally, with online participation and selected live activity in Astana, Kazakhstan. The working period is July–August 2027; arrangements remain in development and applications are not yet open.
Instruments, in many forms
The proposed competition covers classical and traditional instruments: piano, bowed strings, woodwinds, brass, guitar and harp, percussion, and traditional instruments assessed by suitable specialists. The category framework includes solo performance, chamber groups of 2–7, instrumental ensembles of 8–40, and orchestras or concert bands of 25–70. Large-group live participation depends on a separately funded programme. Final eligibility, age divisions, repertoire, and rules will be published before applications open.
Learning before, during, and after the stage
We aim to offer online workshops, specialist feedback for accepted competition entries, masterclasses, and follow-up mentoring. Traditional music should be taught in context with cultural practitioners, including Kazakh traditions. The proposed eligibility covers high-school or equivalent students during 2026–27, including that year’s graduates. Online awards would remain valid for students unable to travel.
Access as part of the design
Our funding goal is to make entry and learning sessions free, with targeted assistance for travel, accommodation, necessary guardians, and instrument access. These are programme aims, subject to sponsor support and the final budget. Sponsors would support access and teaching; artistic assessment must remain independent.
An independent, specialist jury
We hope to invite a prominent international musician alongside experienced specialist adjudicators. No artist or judge is confirmed. Published scoring criteria, declared conflicts of interest, and appropriate expertise across instrument families will guide the jury design.
The path to 2027
The next steps are to establish a responsible local host and producer, confirm venue and instrument requirements, secure funding, and finalise fair rules and safeguarding arrangements. A later announcement will confirm dates, categories, accessibility arrangements, and the application process. Venue, institutional partnerships, sponsorship, and travel arrangements are not yet secured.
